American Dragon is loosely based upon Last Dragon, a live-action series originally developed for Fox Television in 2001.
Doug Dragon is an ordinary 18-year old high school student who learns that he is secretly descended from an ancient race of Dragons only after a team of high-tech DragonSlayers shows up at his house to murder his parents.
Doug alone escapes from the slaughter with the help of his mysterious "Uncle" who, it turns out, is a former DragonSlayer himself, but changed his ways because Doug's father once saved his life.
Pursued by his parents' murderers, Doug and his Uncle flee into the relative safety of the magical underworld of ogres, trolls, giants, etc. who dwell in remote and dangerous villages and underground communities scattered throughout the world.
Unfamiliar with the use of his own Dragon powers, Doug forces
his Uncle to teach him the way of the DragonSlayer.
He will use their own martial skills to
defend himself from his attackers,
while he employs their fabled tracking abilities
to hunt down another of his kind
and finally learn what it means to be a true Dragon.
