The concept for Maryland Ensemble Theatre (MET) was born the summer of 1992 at the Contemporary American Theatre Festival in Shepherdstown, WV. Creative minds developed a scenario: build a multi-faceted arts organization in a location close to urban life yet also maintain the serenity of rural life. The organization built would house a 100 seat black box theatre, create new works, produce contemporary plays, train future actors, take touring productions to school children, show comedy after the mainstage shows on Saturday nights, and house regional artists works on the interior of the building.
Today, all aspects of this dream have become reality.
In 1998, MET became the prime tenant for the Cultural Arts Center of Frederick County. With the aid of the Frederick Arts Council, MET cleaned and renovated a 14,000 square foot store front, and now resides in its 111 seat black box theatre.
Met-X was created to expand our artistic horizons - not just our collective horizons, but our individual horizons as well. Met-X will be the place to test new waters for us as well as you, the audience.
