NCTC presents late night comedy: 'The Eight: Reindeer Monologues'

SPECIAL TO TIMES-HERALD

"The Eight: Reindeer Monologues," directed by Jeff Allen, opens at Newnan Community Theatre Company Friday, Dec. 9, at 10:30 p.m. -- This show has mature content; don't bring the children.

"I kind of like this niche of alternative Christmas," said Allen. "There are so many things out there for the whole family, but there's not much for the twenty -- and thirty-somethings. Shows like this fill that need."

Santa has been accused of a crime against one of his own reindeer. In an apparent media investigation, the members of Santa's sleigh team are interviewed individually. Each unique reindeer character expresses a strong opinion about what happened, who's guilty, and who to believe. As the truth retreats into the darkness, a satirical picture emerges, not just of media investigations but also of the way some of us might behave if spotlighted in front of a camera.

"We have a stellar cast of both new and familiar faces," said Allen. Justin Buckholtz and Justin Jessel are new to the NCTC stage.

"In the auditions we had the actors come in one at a time and deliver a joke," said Allen. "Then we would redirect the joke. They had to demonstrate that they were capable engaging the audience while changing characters, going in different directions, taking chances and doing outrageous things. I was really impressed with everybody that auditioned. It was hard to narrow it down to the final eight."

Late night performances are at 10:30 p.m. (after "A Christmas Carol") on Dec. 10, 16 and 17. For those who are in bed by 10:30, there are shows at 5 p.m. on Dec. 10, 11, 17 and 18.

Ticket prices are $12 for teens (age 15 and up) and seniors and $14 for adults. To make reservations, check out NCTC's newly designed web site at http://newnantheatre.org . Click "Purchase TIX" on the "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues" window. Or call 770-683-6282.
