Winter One-Acts to be Performed February 7th and 8th

Many students have been working hard at preparing our Ursuline Drama's Winter One-Acts Production, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8. Three of the four plays presented are student-directed: "Still Life" by Caroline Crooks '20 and Sophia Gioioso '20, "To Burn a Witch" by Faith Banach '20, and "Murder by Midnight" by Claire Dirks '21. This production will also include a presentation of our METG (Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild) High School Drama competition play "The Infamous Soothing System of Professor Maillard," an adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe short story, directed by Mrs. Pam Schnatterly. Please come support Ursuline Drama and the many students working both on and off stage for these shows! It's sure to be an entertaining evening of Drama, Comedy and "Poe"-etic frights!

So much drama: High schools gear up for state fest with regionals

ROCKPORT --- Camden Hills Regional High School hosts a Regional Drama Festival (often called "The One Acts"), Friday and Saturday, March 6 and 7, in the Strom Auditorium, 25 Keelson Drive.

Although the Maine Drama Festival and these lead-up regionals serve as a selection process by which "championship" schools are chosen, the primary purpose of the competition is to encourage high school theater and to give dedicated young performers the opportunity to see the best work of others who have the passion for the stage.

Schools from Class A (more than 500 students) and Class B (less than 500 students) compete at nine regional drama festivals throughout the state this weekend for the honor of advancing to the state finals on March 20 and 21. The Class A Finals are hosted by Falmouth High School and Oceanside High School hosts the Class B Finals. One school from each class (typically the Class A and Class B winners) may advance to the New England Drama Festival in mid-April in Rutland, Vt.

All shows in the festival are required to run no longer than 40 minutes. Each school is also allotted five minutes to set up their show on stage, and five minutes to strike their set at the end.

The Regional Drama Festival session schedule is as follows:

Friday, March 6, 6 p.m.
Wiscasset High School, "Desdemona in the Afterlife"
Searsport District High School, "One and All"
Morse High School, "My BSF!"

Saturday, March 7, Noon
Medomak Valley High School, "Alice in Wonderland"
Belfast Area High School, "Everything But"
North Haven Community School, "Anger Management"
, ""

Saturday, March 7, 6:15 p.m.
Camden Hills Regional High School, "A Matter of Heritage"
Oceanside High School, "East of the Sun and West of the Moon"

Hello Mr. Goode,
I had sent you an email back on Feb. 10th and received no response, so am emailing you again today. Our school has been practicing to perform your play Murder By Midnight. I need to have the rights release by today in order for our students to compete tomorrow. We will be performing in the Drama Festival at Camden Regional High School on Saturday, one performance. The cost of entrance is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students. However, our school will not be collecting any royalties from this, the money goes to the drama festival. Is it possible to get rights and we can get you a check out from our school today? I have been trying to reach you other ways, but websites only offer an email or mailing address. I would hate for the students not to be able to perform. Please email me asap and I can pay you directly and get the school to pay me back or get you a check from the school. You may also email Thomas Heath for further directions if needed. He is the coordinator of the festival. The students are so looking forward to it. Many thanks,
Carolyn Augusto

trailer for the virtual production

Hello!

I am a current undergraduate student at Cal Poly and I would like the rights to perform your play Murder by Midnight. I am enrolled in a directing class and I think it would be delightful to direct your comedic script.

Due to the current issue of Covid19, I will not be directing this for the stage sadly. Instead, I will work with actors with cameras and editing in order to create some sort of video piece. I am unsure at the moment how many people are expected to watch it, but I know my class and my teacher will, so that's at least twenty.

Thank you,
Charlie Charm

Nov 14, 20 & 22

I am writing on behalf of our undergraduate directing class.

Our students are required to present a 10 minute plat as their final project. One of our students would like to work on your play Murder by Midnight. The student shows will be presented free for 3 performances between November 13 and 22 (we have 11 students in the class and are running plays in rotation) on an outdoor stage (weather permitting) for a small drive-in audience. (Austin is limiting public gatherings to 10 or fewer through at least Dec. 15, 2020.)

Would you allow us to produce your play as part of this class showing? And what is your licensing fee for three shows?

Thank you so much. Please let me know what other questions you have. I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm regards,
Michelle

Hello! I am interested in using your script of "Murder By Midnight" for a class I am taking. It is for a directing class, the only audience will be my class and professor about 13 people. It will be recorded over Zoom and sent to my professor, there will be no tickets, and no profits, strictly for educational purposes. Thank you for your time! I await your response.
