Jeff Goode's darkly comic alternative to the usual holiday fare is set at the North Pole, where things are not only unmerry but downright sordid.

A furor erupts when Santa Claus is accused of sexual harassment by a couple of his reindeer. All eight share thier views and anger about "the fat boy's" alleged behavior. With calculated echoes of news coverage of public figures like Clarence Thomas, Bob Packwood and Michael Jackson, you'll hear from the macho Dasher angry about the fact that a reindeer complained, the feminist Blitzen turning the event into an opportunity to advance her political agenda, and the self-absorbed Prancer, who's renamed himself 'Hollywood' more concerned with the failure of his movie on video than with the fate of one of the alleged victims, Rudolph.

It's a NEW holiday story that's sure to leave you jolly through the holidays and beyond!

Stephanie Coltrin directs this wickedly funny and clever comedy that comes to the playhouse stage just in time for the start of the holiday season. A furor erupts when Santa Claus is accused of sexual harassment by a couple of his reindeer. All eight share their views and anger about "the fat boy's" alleged behavior in the darkly comic Jeff Goode fare.

"The Reindeer Monologues" features Don Fowler, Meredith Rensa, Rhett Nadolny, Sara Borgeson and Ted Escobar.

    (featuring "Dasher" from The Eight)

    with Jimmy Makofsky as Dasher

What makes Hoopla stand out from other Shadowbox fare, turning it into one of the most-anticipated seasonal productions in central Ohio?

    Here are five factors:

    2. Dasher

Jimmy Mak plays Dasher, the most macho of Santa's reindeer and the only other role exclusive to Hoopla.

"The character is so unexpected because Dasher's monologue shows the familiar story of Santa Claus from the reindeer's point of view," Mak said. "Dasher tells his harder, more militant and messier version of what happens on Christmas Eve and Santa's big run."

Originally brought to life in 1997 with an excerpt from The Eight, a collection of reindeer monologues by playwright Jeff Goode,
"The acclaimed Mak portrayal [as] has blossomed through three other company-written monologues about the proud military-style leader of the sleigh team."

"The monologues have to do with honor, dignity, Dasher's dedication to the mission and the toughness needed to do Santa's run successfully.

"Dasher has to have the thick skin to combat all the weather and architectural issues -- such as slamming into a skyscraper or billboard that wasn't there the year before."

Part of the fun, Mak said, "is that I hold back my hostility all year long and then I get to release it in one long rush."

"Dasher treats Christmas like a war, screaming a lot. But, underneath, his goal is to make all the little kids happy."

SEX. LIES. SANTA . . . Santa is delivering a massive parcel of talent to The Basement this Christmas season. Michael Hurst, Oliver Driver, Antonia Prebble, Claire Chitham, Sarah Wiseman, Shane Bosher, Madeleine Sami, Fleur Saville, Dean O'Gorman, Anna Jullienne and many more will bring The Eight: Reindeer Monologues to life.

This amazing array of established actors will be supported by some of Auckland's hottest new acting talent. 40 actors will alternate over 14 performances turning The Eight: Reindeer Monologues into a huge Christmas cracker surprise - who knows who will pop out on stage next!

Written by Jeff Goode and a sell-out success around the world, The Eight: Reindeer Monologues is not the usual sugar-coated Christmas fare. Instead, audiences are invited to The Basement for some in-your-face seasonal merriment as this dark Christmas comedy sheds new light on Santa and his eight reindeer. Scandal in the North Pole erupts as one of Santa's eight reindeer accuses him of decidedly un-Christmas like behaviour. Forget happy elves and cute smiling reindeer; think instead of Dasher as a rugby jock; Cupid as a gay toy boy and Vixen as a doe with a tale to tell. You won't know who you are going to see perform. And you'll never look at Santa the same way again!

The Eight: Reindeer Monologues is coarse, witty, vulgar and crude and therefore intended for mature audiences only.

Jeff Goode's hilarious dark holiday comedy.
    Directed by Vic Chaney
    an Equity-approved project

Ever wonder what happens those other 364 days of the year at the North Pole?
In this hilarious and poignant tale, scandal erupts at the North Pole when one of Santa's eight tiny reindeer accuses him of sexual harassment. The Eight: Reindeer Monologues is a dark, dark Christmas comedy composed of a series of eight monologues, one from each of Santas reindeer.

    http://flavorpill.com/sanfrancisco/events/2008/12/4/the-eight-reindeer-monologues
Santa Claus may have been spotted kissing mommy, but that brief episode of womanizing was nothing compared to the charges of interspecies sexual misconduct Saint Nick faces in Jeff Goode's The Eight: Reindeer Monologues. An acerbic evisceration of Christmas' many beloved symbols, The Eight places Santa at the center of a media circus after allegations surface from his sleigh-hauling team that his conduct was more naughty than nice. In a series of Behind the Music-style monologues, Dasher, Dancer, Comet, Cupid, Prancer, Vixen, Donner, and Blitzen tell all in this raucous, adult mashup of holiday tradition and TMZ trashiness.

A dark, dark Christmas comedy. Scandal erupts at the North Pole when one of Santa's eight tiny reindeer accuses him of sexual harassment. As mass media descends upon the event, the other members of the sleigh team demand to share their perspectives, and a horrific tale of corruption and perversion emerges, which seems to implicate everyone from the littlest elf to the tainted Saint himself.

With each deer's confession, the truth behind the shocking allegations becomes clearer and clearer. ...and murkier and murkier.

For reservations, call The Local Actors Guild at (518) 393-3496.

I am writing to you from New World School of the Arts in Miami, FL. I am the assistant to the dean in the Theater Division. New World School of the Arts is the magnet arts high school for Miami-Dade County and a B.F.A. conservatory through Miami Dade College and the University of Florida.

Our senior high school students have requested to put up a student run production of The UnXmas Story. They would like to do 3 performances in total. Their proposal has not yet been approved, it is still in the evaluation phase. Before final approval can be given, the department needs to know what the royalties will be. I did a quick search on the internet to see which company holds the rights for The UnXmas Story and was not able to find the correct one. I was however able to find you webpage where it gave your e-mail address as a form of contact to inquire about rights and royalties. Ahymara Gonzalez agonza23@mdc.edu

Doing this show was an easy reminder (and a much needed one) of why I do theatre. I didn't have a big part in the show, but I was given a lot of room to "ham it up" and really make the time I was onstage memorable. My personal favorite was giving tours before the show. Prior to entering the theatre to see the show you had to take a tour around "santa's workshop" (the 9th floor). This was all unscripted and very interactive. If you saw the show then you know I was the Jewish Elf, so for the tours I donned a brooklynese dialect and showed off places like the Fuitcake Destruction Room, the Coal Mine, and the Jewish Community Center. I just had a lot of fun. ---Alexis
Yes sir, that's one of my kids from school. We did the show at New World School of the Arts in Miami. It was an amazing success. We transformed the the ninth floor into Santa workshop and had the elves give tours to the audience before they could enter the theatre. We did the full Eight. The 2 male actors play all the male roles. Then I had a transitional team of elves and misfit toys. The Show was just one day- Dec 18th. I was the director that did this project with the kids because the straight acting kids did have a project this semester so I volunteered to do the show. CRAZY! ---Elena Garcia

THE CURTAIN GOES UP FOR NEW THEATER CLUB

Junior Nicolette Pollack, president and founder of the new Theatre Club on campus, has brought together a diverse and energetic group of students into this new student activity, all while carrying a full course load and playing a leading role in a local play, Skyscraper, by David Auburn. Her own interest and involvement in the theater was her motivation to bring back a once beloved student activity to campus Ñ THE THEATER CLUB.

Along with Vice President Lisa Rybak, a junior, Pollack organized a variety of events this year, with different members clustered around their various interests in theater. The first event of the year was a Murder Mystery involving the Italian mob, Al Capone and an investigator with his own mysterious connections. Participants ate a delicious Italian meal as they acted out their parts in the casual atmosphere of the Coal Ben. Though murder ensued, no students were harmed in the making of this play. Close on its heels came the groupÕs first public performance, "The Eight: Reindeer Monologues" by Jeff Goode, a definite twist on the usual story of Santa and his reindeer. Freshmen Dana Montgomery-Gair and Jason Escamilla are working on forming an Improv group as well. Shakespeare Night was held March 27 and involved set scenes as well as an Open Mic option for those who wanted to read an impromptu monologue. The final project for the year was a series of one-act plays, written entirely by students. The club also held a Writing Workshop to help students learn to write monologues. Pollack is pleased with how successful the club has been in such a short period of time and hopes the curtain stays up on this production for years to come.
