OK, I warned you the old photos were coming. These are all from Magic Kingdom Tokyo Ride, playwrights festival 1986. Sorry for the bad image quality, but these were taken with my crappy camera back in the days of film (remember that?).

Here we have Julie Crossen and Tony Trout in the roles of Dawn (Doug) and Dave the surfer dudes (dudess). Too bad we don't have a photo of Tony in action on the masterful surfboards that he built for us. I can still see him hanging ten while doing that wonderful monologue about riding the tidal wave across the AZ border! That scene was WOW!

Oh what a cute couple we have here. Why if it isn't Rosa Elizabeth Arnold and Todd McNerney as Ruthie and Eddie off to the beach! Nice legs, Todd!
Here are our protagonists. Yes, that's Jeff Goode as Tamura the "Japanese" boy, along with his father William Kuang-sheng Shih, and his mother Susan Rui Yin.

We got a fair amount of flack from the critics about the racist, sexist, stereotyping of the script. I think they seemed to overlook the Comic Book nature of the script and production. I guess we didn't fully get the irony and satire across.

It was fun though!

On a more serious note, we have Kirk Griffith as the Junkie and none other than Guy Snodgrass as the Gorilla.
And now the finale with just about everyone in the cast. Let me take a second to acknowledge all who I can. Charlie Davies and Lisa LoCurto our fantastic design team. Shannon Cummins who stage managed this monster (something like 74 scenes and over 20 characters). John McCarthy did the Audio Design and Julie Stiner handled all the props.

The cast:
Elizabeth Arnold
Melanie Pot
Michael Tawona Kachingwe
Michael Johnson
Tony Trout
Julie Crossen
Carl Waisanen
Frederik Norberg
Kirk Griffith
Guy Snodgrass
Susan Rui Yin
William Kuang-sheng Shih
Tim Gordon
Michael Casula
Jeff Goode
Todd McNerney
Scott Marshall Taylor

No director could ask for a more committed and talented cast. You all are the best!

Totally exhausted after tech rehearsal for Magic Kingdom Tokyo Ride - must have been May, 1986 at the University of Iowa.
